DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A unidentified teenager was seriously injured after they ran in front of a vehicle in Davenport. KWQC-TV reports the accident happened Tuesday morning.The vehicle involved was traveling eastbound when the 14-year-old ran into the street and was hit. The teen was transported to Iowa City Hospital by helicopter with life threatening injuries.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) -Two men are in custody after police say they were involved with drug activity inside a Cedar Rapids Taco Bell.  KGAN-TV reports police were called to the Taco Bell early Tuesday morning for suspicious activity.  When police went inside they found remnants of a meth lab. No names have been released and company officials say the restaurant will be sanitized before it reopens.

JOHNSTON, IA (IRN) – A student has accidentally shot herself in the leg during a drill at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston, according to the Des Moines Register. The shooting occurred Monday. Academy Director Judy Bradshaw says that the student shot herself in the thigh when drawing her gun during a drill. The bullet went through the thigh and didn’t hit any bones.

LINCOLN, NE (IRN) – A 49-year-old Iowa man has been charged for the western Iowa crash death of a University of Nebraska soccer coach.  KCCI-TV reports Paul Marshall, of Modale, is charged with vehicular homicide while operating under the influence.The fatal collision occurred on May 16, when Marshall drove west on a ramp and entered the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80. Marshall’s vehicle then struck one driven by Peter Underwood, who died at the scene.

MAXWELL, IA (IRN) – Story County officials are searching for a woman who reportedly shot her uncle with a shotgun on Monday in Maxwell.  WHO-TV reports 66-year-old Dwight Carpenter Jr. was shot in the ankle by his niece, 33-year-old Candace Mosley of Ames. Mosely fled the scene on a motorcycle with the license plate “MOMGRL.”

INDIANOLA, IA (IRN) – Authorities are investigating an alleged sexual abuse incident that took place between two camp employees. KCCI-TV reports the alleged incident happened at Camp Wesley Woods south of Indianola on July 31. The victim is an 18-year-old woman and the suspect is an adult man who were both employees. The camp is a retreat center that is part of the United Methodist Church.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An afternoon fire damaged two homes in Cedar Rapids Monday. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports crews found flames on two sides of one home, damaging interior rooms and a porch. The siding on a neighboring house melted from the heat. Two people were home at the time of the fire, and fled after a warning by a neighbor. Two dogs also escaped, but a cat perished in the fire.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Despite ongoing efforts to curb high-risk drinking and the reputation it brings to campus, the University of Iowa remains runner-up on the Princeton Review’s annual list of top party schools. This is Iowa’s fifth straight year in the top five. The nation’s top party school? The University of Illinois.
