COLWELL, IA (IRN) – A young boy was flown to the hospital after a farm accident near the northeastern Iowa town of Colwell.  The Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reports a Mennonite family was bailing hay Thursday when a load on a wagon shifted, knocking the boy off. He was also run over by the wagon. His name and condition have not been released.

AUSTIN, TX (IRN) – The suspect wanted in connection with a vehicle arson at the Texas State Capitol on August 7 was arrested Wednesday in Iowa. KTVT Dallas reports Michael Patrick Wagner, a 38-year-old resident of Iowa, was arrested by the Marion Police Department for an unrelated charge. Texas Rangers are on their way to pick up Wagner.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A Davenport man woke up to the sound of a vehicle crashing into his home early Friday morning.  KWQC-TV reports a vehicle slammed into the house about 3 a.m. The homeowner says it’s the fourth time his house has been hit. He says the vehicle drove away in a hurry, leaving behind the front grill.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A nursing home chain that operates facilities in Northwest Iowa has agreed to pay more than $415,000 to resolve allegations of inaccurate reports for Medicaid payments. The Sioux City Journal reports Signature Care Centers of Johnston reached the agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The company admitted no liability or wrongdoing. The government did not allege any patient harm or jeopardy to patients’ conditions.

KENSETT, IA (IRN) – A driver was killed in a rollover crash after having a tire blow out Thursday, according to the Iowa State Patrol.  The 1999 Mazda was southbound on Highway  65 north of Mason City when it had a tire blowout and the driver lost control. Teresa Brevig, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene. Kenneth Brevig, 57, was transported by helicopter.

INDIANOLA, IA (IRN) – Police arrested a 20-year-old man Thursday in connection to a sexual assault at a church youth camp in rural Indianola. Asa Bruss has been charged with four counts of third-degree sexual abuse. An 18-year-old female counselor at Wesley Woods Camp and Retreat Center told investigators that a fellow counselor sexually abused her at the camp.

DES MOINES (IRN) – Iowa received a $3 million federal grant to help up to 650 laid-off John Deere workers retrain for new jobs. The Des Moines Register reports Iowa Workforce Development will open a transition center for laid-off Deere workers at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. Since last year, John Deere has laid off 1,300 workers because of slumping farm equipment demand, given declining corn and soybean prices.

HIAWATHA, IA (IRN) – GoDaddy.com is eyeing a $6 million expansion and renovation of its Hiawatha facility, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. GoDaddy Iowa offers customer care, small business consulting, engineering, development and marketing. GoDaddy employs 700 people in Hiawatha. The company said the expansion could create another 130 jobs over the next three years.
