BOONE, IA (IRN) – More information has been released in this week’s officer-involved shooting in Boone. The man shot has been identified as 28-year-old Michael Disbrowe of Boone. Witnesses say Disbrowe was threatening people with a gun. When officers arrived, they tried to diffuse the situation, telling him to drop the gun numerous times. After several minutes he raised his arm and aimed the gun at the officers, who fired their weapons, killing him.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A popular restaurant chain has announced that a data breach included eight Iowa stores. WHO-TV reports Noodles & Company say the data breach may have compromised the security of payment information for customers who used debit or credit cards from January 31 through June 2 of this year.

MANCHESTER, IA (IRN) – An eastern Iowa judge is accused of throwing a water bottle at her husband and hitting him. The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports that Judge Stephanie Rattenborg of Manchester is charged with domestic assault. A sheriff’s deputy responded to a 911 call from Rattenborg’s husband Friday evening. Randall Rattenborg told the deputy that his wife threw the water bottle at him and began hitting him because she’d learned he was having an extramarital affair. He suffered a minor lip injury.

SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – Plans are in place for a large-scale redevelopment project in downtown Sioux City. KCAU-TV reports the $16 million Ag Expo and equestrian center would be the first of its kind in the region. Woodbury County pledged its support by voting Tuesday night to contribute $1.5 million to the project with proceeds coming from gaming revenue.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids police credit the quick actions of two neighbors with helping a woman whose house exploded Monday night. KCRG-TV reports neighbors of 64-year-old Diane Barnes shut off the gas meter and used a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames and pull her to safety. Police say if it weren’t for their actions, Barnes would likely be dead. Her condition is unknown.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Emergency crews responded to the Iowa State Capitol Tuesday afternoon following a report of a fire. WHO-TV reports the electrical fire was confined to an office used by the House Republican Caucus. The extent of the damage has not been assessed. Smoke did spread through the building, and it was ventilated. No one was injured.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Former Iowa Gov. Chet Culver, who was recently announced as the YMCA of Greater Des Moines’ newest president, says he will work to make the facility the best in the country. KCCI-TV reports Culver’s main task is to raise money. Construction for a world-class swimming pool was stopped after the downtown Des Moines YMCA experienced financial problems. The area remains an empty shell with a dirt floor.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Thousands of Iowans will be compensated over $18 million dollars in the wake of the Volkswagen emissions fraud scandal, according to KGAN-TV. The payments will come from a $15 billion settlement after it was found that over 570,000 VW and Audi vehicles had software that falsified emissions results. 3,600 of those cars are registered in Iowa. Each car owner will receive a restitution payment of at least $5,100 and a choice between a vehicle buyback or repair work.
