DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A 20-year-old woman has been given 15 years in prison for shooting a teenager at a Des Moines restaurant. The Des Moines Register reports that Maryann Hannam was with three other people at an IHOP when the girl came in and began yelling at Hannam. One of the women Hannam was with threw a coffee pot at the girl. The girl then challenged Hannam to shoot her. Hannam pulled a handgun from her waistband and while holding down the teen in a booth, shot her.
SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – Two people have sued Sioux City over its ordinance banning pit bulls.The Sioux City Journal reports the lawsuit was filed Friday in U.S. District Court. The lawsuit allegest the ordinance is inconsistent and bans animals that are not harmful.
RUDD, IA (IRN) – A Charles City man died as the result of a crash near the northern Iowa town of Rudd. 23-year-old Trent Alan Smith of Charles City ran into the back of a parked semitrailer that had stopped on the highway. The driver of the semitrailer was not hurt.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines mother faces multiple charges for leaving her toddler alone. KCCI-TV reports 30-year-old Hallie Amick was charged with child endangerment bodily injury and possession of narcotics. Police found the 2-year-old boy in the backyard alone wearing only a T-shirt and a diaper that was “full and sagging.” The child was sucking on a frozen chicken breast while a small dog was jumping on the boy trying to get the chicken. Police also found a marijuana pipe, blunts, and stems in the house, in plain sight.
AMES, IA (IRN) – Ames police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot several times and sent to the hospital Tuesday. WHO-TV reports two men got into an argument that escalated into a shooting. They used a K-9 unit to track the man, but he remains at large.
CHARLES CITY, IA (IRN) – A freight train car that derailed in Charles City rolled into and damaged a trackside tavern called DeRailed. KCRG-TV reports Police Chief Hugh Anderson says says a patrol officer called him to say a train car had derailed into DeRailed, adding that “it’s not every day you get to say that.” No one was injured.
