DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A 2-year-old boy found dead in a Grimes home last month died of a drug overdose. KCCI-TV reports autopsy results show Mason Wyckoff died of acute oxycodone toxicity. His mother, 33-year-old Stephanie Erickson, was found unresponsive and later died. Mason’s father said the mother had received psychiatric care for suicidal tendencies in the past.
MT SHASTA, CA (IRN) – An Iowa man died while hiking Mount Shasta with his 16-year-old son on Thursday, according to the Des Moines Register. 54-year-old James Sieleman fell about 150 yards down a steep, ice-covered slope. A helicopter was able to rescue Sieleman’s son.
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The annual St. Jude’s Sweet Corn Festival in Cedar Rapids was shut down early last night due to fights. KCRG-TV reports a group of about 70 juveniles caused multiple disturbances. Police say most of the juveniles scattered, but officers detained six. The arrested juveniles face charges ranging from disorderly conduct to assault on a police officer. The festival will continue as scheduled today.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (IRN) – A team from the Johnston Little League is on its way to the Little League World Series. Johnston beat Frontenac, Kansas 3-0 in the Midwest Regional Final to advance. Johnston’s first game in Williamsport, PA will be Friday.
