CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids based Rockwell Collins is going to reduce its workforce. KGAN-TV reports the reduction will affect 2-3% of employees company-wide. 20,000 people work worldwide for the company, 8,700 of whom are based in Cedar Rapids. It’s unclear how the cuts will affect Cedar Rapids workers.
FLOYD COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Two people were killed in an auto accident in Floyd County Friday. 25-year-old Colbie Gallipo of Forest Lake, Minnesota, was driving a pickup truck westbound on Highway 18 while 75-year-old Marilyn Wulff of Charles City approached an intersection. Wulff failed to stop for a stop sign, entered the intersection, and her car was t-boned. Wulff and her passenger, 14-year-old Jaden Wulff of Charles City, were killed.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A report of a drive-by shooting in Des Moines Friday ended with police holding four teens at gunpoint. WHO-TV reports what started as a prank turned into something far more serious. A driver called police saying a car full of teenagers shot a gun at him. He tailed them, and police pulled the teens over. The teens had no guns in the car–they had been shooting silly string. Police say there were no charges as the teens learned their lesson.
DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Two people had to be rescued after they fell in a cave in Dubuque, according to KCRG-TV. Rescue teams entered the cave and found them. One person was injured and needed to be carried out. Two police officers also entered the cave who later had to be assisted out. Neither officer was hurt.
DES MOINES, (IRN) – 75-year-old Don Wright will be running his 99th marathon in Des Moines tomorrow. KCCI-TV reports he ran his first marathon when he was 62-years-old. Two weeks later, he learned he had multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer. So he kept running. He has run marathons in all 50 states, and plans to run his 100th marathon in November in Philadelphia.
