OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – Quick action by the Ottumwa Police Department has landed an Ottumwa man in jail. WQAD-TV reports officers responded to a report of robbery at gas station. A white male, later identified as 20-year-old Anthony Scott Boatright entered the store, displayed a weapon and demanded cash from the clerk. He fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money, but officers caught him running from the scene.

NEVADA, IA (IRN) – One person was injured when a vehicle was hit by a train Tuesday night near Nevada. KCCI-TV reports an SUV driven by 64-year-old Kathleen Orcutt was southbound when she noticed the train traveling west on the tracks. Orcutt attempted to stop and slid into the path of the train. The SUV was dragged approximately 300 feet west along the tracks before going over a steep embankment. Her condition was considered non-life threatening.

WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – Waterloo police are investigating the death of a man firefighters found inside a 2-story house yesterday. KCRG-TV reports friends of the victim became concerned when he didn’t show up for work and wouldn’t answer his phone. They went to his house, saw it ablaze, and called 911.

DENISON, IA (IRN) – The search for a 15-year-old Denison girl continues after she was swept away in the Boyer River after a car she was riding in crashed into the river at approximately 3:00 a.m. Thursday. KETV reports the driver of the car, 25-year-old Ramon Hernandez, is in jail on multiple charges, including drug distribution to minors.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The plan to eliminate state funding for Planned Parenthood is moving on to the Senate Judiciary Committee, according to WHO-TV. Hundreds of protesters dressed in pink rallied against the bill at the Capitol Tuesday, but this didn’t prevent the Republican-led legislation from moving forward. Democrats say this would limit access to healthcare, while Republicans say it would increase access because funding will be distributed to more healthcare providers.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Public Safety says more than 1,700 Iowa firefighters and emergency responders have been issued improper credentials due to improper test scoring over a four-year period. A former employee, John McPhee, is charged with misconduct in office and tampering with records. Affected individuals are being notified.
