DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A home daycare provider in Davenport has been arrested and charged with four counts of child endangerment causing serious injury to two infants. WQAD-TV reports 44-year-old Amy Smith operates a daycare out of her home. One infant suffered fractures to a leg and arm, a fractured wrist and a rib fracture consistent with being squeezed. Another child suffered multiple bruises on the face and head, lacerations under her eye, on her mouth and on her wrists.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – An Iowa City woman is facing charges after allegedly leaving her child home alone so she could go out drinking. KGAN-TV reports police were called to a residence for a welfare check on a child and her mother. Upon arrival, police found 21-year-old Brianna Gore highly intoxicated with her 14-month-old daughter. Police found that Gore had left the home to go out and drink, lied about who was taking care of the child while she was gone, and only returned home after drinking a large amount of alcohol and becoming ill.

MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A north Iowa man who killed two people has been sentenced to two consecutive life terms plus 25 years in prison. The Globe Gazette reports that 31-year-old Peter Veal, of Lake Mills, was sentenced Tuesday after being convicted in July of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Veal shot one person and stabbed another to death. A witness to the killings was able to escape when Veal’s gun jammed.

FORT DODGE, IA (IRN) – A manhunt is underway in Fort Dodge for a man police believe shot another man to death in the street. Fort Dodge police say 27-year-old Levi Gibbs III is wanted for murder. He is considered armed and dangerous.

SEYMOUR, IA (IRN) – A town still recovering from tornado damage is now looking for vandals who damaged the school football field. KCCI-TV reports school officials in Seymour are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever tore up the field by driving around in it with their vehicle. An EF-2 tornado hit Seymour in March. Crews had just finished rebuilding the press box in time for the school’s first game.

IOWA (IRN) – Iowa’s state attorney general is calling on Iowans to act now following the Equifax data breach. Last week, the credit monitoring company said a cyberattack exposed the sensitive information of millions. Equifax says the names, social security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and possibly driver’s license numbers of about 143 million Americans was exposed. Attorney General Tom Miller says the breach includes the information of more than a million Iowans.
