DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa’s top elections official says there were “attempted outside intrusions” on the state’s elections system last year, but no breaches. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says the federal government contacted his office Friday to confirm the attempt. Pate says nothing was compromised or hacked.
ELKADER, IA (IRN) – Iowa prosecutors have charged two nurses, accusing them of abusing a resident at an Elkader nursing home. Nichole Buckley and Heidi Mueller are each charged with dependent adult abuse, wanton neglect of a resident of a health care facility and tampering with records. Documents say the nurses denied food, necessary medical care and medications to the patient, then falsified records to cover their actions.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Investigators are looking into whether a fire at a Des Moines tree trimming business Thursday night was set intentionally. Firefighters responded to a fire on the city’s east side and found a garage, a box trailer from a semi, and a tree-trimming truck all on fire.
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The Cedar Rapids Rotary Club is working on bringing art to some Cedar Rapids parks. KCRG-TV reports on September 30, the Downtown Cedar Rapids Rotary Club will add four sculptures in Bever, Cherry Hill, Jones and Noelridge Parks. The rotary bought the artwork from local artist Tom Newport.
