HUMBOLDT COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One person died after an officer-involved shooting in the northern Iowa town of Dakota City. Law enforcement officials responded to a home on a report of a wanted subject hiding under the deck. Officers found a subject armed with a weapon, who fired it in the air and then pointed it at the officers. An Iowa DNR officer then fatally shot the subject.

SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – A Sioux City man has been released from prison less than two months into his seven-year sentence for shooting his 3-year-old sister in the face with a BB gun. The Sioux City Journal reports the judge reconsidered 18-year-old Adrian White’s sentence and suspended the remainder of his prison term. White is now on three years’ probation. He was 17 when he shot the preschooler twice in the face. One BB fractured the girl’s jaw and the other entered her eye and lodged next to her brain.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A woman has been charged with stealing more than $15,000 from a convenience store in Dubuque. KCRG-TV reports 33-year-old Jennifer Villarreal worked as a shift manager at a Casey’s General Store. Video footage showed Villarreal leaving work with the bank deposit bags. She never deposited them.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – When 57-year-old Sandy McNamar found out she was terminally ill with cancer, she asked members of her church to bring donations of food in lieu of flowers to her funeral. KCCI-TV reports the church ended up with more than 2,000 pounds of donated food. Now the Sandy McNamar Memorial Food Pantry gives back to the community every other Saturday. There’s also a free community meal at 5 p.m. on the last Saturday of the month.
