COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA (IRN) – The trial for a mother accused of giving her 8-year-old daughter a fatal amount of an antidepressant drug has been postponed. The Daily Nonpareil reports that trial for 34-year-old Misty Frazier scheduled for December has been moved to April. Frazier has pled not guilty to second-degree murder, child endangerment and giving prescription drugs to a minor without a prescription. The girl died after being given an overdose of the antidepressant amitriptyline, commonly sold under the brand name Elavil.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A juvenile with a gun was taken into custody near East High School in Des Moines Tuesday. The Des Moines Register reports several juveniles were fighting across the street from East High School when a Des Moines police officer intervened. One juvenile resisted arrest, was taken into custody and was found to be armed with a gun.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police have three suspects in custody after a convenience store was robbed on the east side of Des Moines. KCCI-TV reports three men entered a Git-n-Go store, assaulted the clerk and took cash. An officer stopped the suspects a few blocks away and took them into custody. Detectives are investigating a potential link to other robberies.
DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A woman has bonded out of jail after her arrest for crashing into a building in Dubuque, according to KCRG-TV. Police say 52-year-old Natalya Jones crashed a van into the building Tuesday. The impact caused a porch roof to collapse, but no one was hurt. Jones faces charges for having no driver’s license or insurance, for failure to maintain control, and for a previous theft.
ROCK ISLAND, IL (IRN) – Two juveniles were caught running from the scene where a stolen truck crashed near the Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island Tuesday. The truck, reported stolen out of Davenport earlier that day, rolled in the crash. WQAD-TV reports two Davenport 14-year-olds were apprehended and charged.
NEW YORK, NY (IRN) – An astronaut from Iowa is receiving another honor. Peggy Whitson has been named one of Glamour magazine’s Women of the Year. Whitson was born in Mount Ayr and grew up near Beaconsfield. She has logged 665 days in space during her career–the most by any woman. Whitson was also the first woman to command the International Space Station.
