ACKLEY, IA (IRN) – A trial has been scheduled for a woman accused of helping her boyfriend torture his 8-year-old son by locking him in a basement enclosure, withholding food and making him endure dog bites. KWWL-TV reports 39-year-old Traci Tyler has entered a written plea of not guilty to a kidnapping charge. Her trial is set to begin Sept. 11. The boy’s father, 30-year-old Alex Shadlow, is scheduled to enter a plea Monday.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after he was dragged under an SUV for 250 feet after a collision Wednesday. The Des Moines Register reports both vehicles were trying to maneuver their way past a Des Moines Water Works vehicle that was watering flowers in the median on Fleur Drive. The 44-year old motorcyclist was struck from behind and eventually pulled underneath the SUV driven by a 70-year-old woman. The motorcyclist wasn’t wearing a helmet. He’s expected to survive.

JOHNSON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One person is dead after a semi and two motorcycles collided in Johnson County last night. The two motorcycles were traveling together on I-80 when they started to slow down for stopped traffic ahead for a previous accident. The semi was traveling behind the motorcycles and didn’t stop in time, hitting both.

BETTENDORF, IA (IRN) – Tuesday afternoon’s commute did not go well in Bettendorf according to KWQC-TV. On a short span of I-74 police responded to seven accidents in the two-hour period from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Police say the accidents were attributed to excessive speeds, following too closely, and failure to adjust to wet roadways. Many were chain-reaction incidents.

WARREN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – An Indianola couple is recovering after an early morning fire last week destroyed their home. WHO-TV reports Kevin and Missy Barr’s lives may have been saved by a neighbor. Gary Webster was on his way to the gym when he saw flames shooting from the roof of the home. He stopped, and pounded on the door to wake up the Barrs who were sleeping. The Barrs say Webster is a hero who saved their lives.
