ACKLEY, IA (IRN) – A trial has been rescheduled for a central Iowa man accused of locking his 8-year-old son in a basement. KCCI-TV reports a judge granted the delay for 30-year-old Alex Shadlow. He and 39-year-old Traci Tyler have pleaded not guilty to kidnapping charges. Authorities say the boy was locked up for at least 9 hours a day last summer in a space under the basement stairs. The couple withheld food from him and made him endure dog bites. He slept on concrete and had no access to a bathroom.

INWOOD, IA (IRN) – A man was killed in a farm accident near Inwood in Lyon County Friday. KCAU-TV reports a tractor rolled over and pinned Paul DeBoar, 59, underneath. DeBoer was pronounced dead at the scene.

CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – A man was arrested in Cedar Falls after an incident with a sword that led to another man’s thumb being severed. According to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Zachary Aaron Kremer, 22, said he was wielding the sword to break a stick that the victim had in his hands, but missed. Witnesses say Kremer swung the sword at the victim and his girlfriend intentionally, with the blade hitting the victim’s thumb while he tried to protect his girlfriend.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Trump administration is doing its part to help Iowa congressman David Young hold onto his U.S. House seat. Last week President Donald Trump mocked Young’s 3rd district Democratic challenger Cindy Axne at a rally in Council Bluffs, and praised the two-term Republican. Vice President Mike Pence will join the congressman for a rally Friday at a hotel near the Des Moines airport.

U.S.A. (IRN) – The college wrestling season is underway, and Trackwrestling released their first rankings for the year. The Hawkeyes are the highest-ranked Iowa-based program, checking in at No. 3. They trail only Penn State and Ohio State. Oklahoma State and Nebraska round out the top five. The Panthers are No. 14 overall, while the Cyclones are 23rd.
