OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – Ottumwa police say a missing 10-year-old boy has been found safe Thursday morning. Deontae John Michael Renken walked away from his home Wednesday afternoon. No other details are available.

ALTOONA, IA (IRN) – A former Des Moines Police officer is again facing drug charges after a crash this week in Altoona. WHO-TV reports Brandon Singleton’s van ran rear-ended a car, and police found a baggy of methamphetamine in his van. Singleton was fired from the Des Moines Police Department after a similar crash in 2012. Singleton hit a parked car while driving his squad car and methamphetamine was found in his police vehicle.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police are searching for a man who lit an LGBTQ+ flag on fire downtown. KCCI-TV reports surveillance video captured a man burning the flag outside the Blazing Saddle in the East Village early Wednesday morning. Video shows the suspect trying to light the nylon flag over and over. At points he can be seen biting the flag before ripping it down. After the flag is in flames on the ground, the man walks away.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Unionized workers at the General Mills plant in Cedar Rapids are preparing for another round of negotiations with their employer, after voting down a contract offer Wednesday. Ninety-nine percent of union voters vetoed General Mills’ “last, best and final” offer Wednesday. But when General Mills heard the news, it invited them to the negotiating table once more this morning.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A late harvest, wet corn and the fall chill have combined to multiply demand for propane. Iowa ag secretary Mike Naig says demand has created a supply pinch as farmers rush to bring in their crops. Nearly every bushel of corn needs to be dried. Only 43% of Iowa’s corn crop has been brought in and the harvest is 11 days behind the typical figure at this time of year.
