DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Four inmates were injured in a crash this morning near the East Mixmaster in Des Moines. Troopers say there was a crash involving a Chevy Traverse and a box truck. Those drivers weren’t injured. That crash caused a secondary crash when a Dodge van carrying federal inmates struck the box truck. The van was carrying two guards and five inmates. Four of the inmates were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The fifth inmate is being held at the Polk County jail. Both guards were uninjured.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Police are searching phone records and social media accounts for clues to the location of a Des Moines teenager who went missing in January. KCCI-TV reports it’s 47 days since 18-year-old Abdi Sharif left the Merle Hay Mall Target and was never heard from again. His family remains optimistic he’s OK.

CHARLES CITY, IA (IRN) – A Charles City teen was airlifted after a two-vehicle accident Tuesday in northeast Iowa. The Iowa State Patrol reports 17-year-old Leo Trebbien was driving a 1995 Jeep Wrangler when he failed to stop at a stop sign. His vehicle was then struck by a 2011 Chevy Silverado driven by 41-year-old Andrew Hauser, of Clarksville. The Iowa State Patrol said both lives were saved due to seatbelts.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Felons would be required to repay restitution to victims before they could get their voting rights restored under a bill passed by the Iowa Senate. Gov. Kim Reynolds indicated support for the measure.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Iowa City may soon be home to thousands of solar panels that would be owned and operated by MidAmerican Energy. KCRG-TV reports the proposed site is at the Waterworks Prairie Park on the northeast side of Iowa City.
