DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Another 107 people tested positive for COVID-19, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported Wednesday, bringing the state total to 3,748. Additionally, another seven people with COVID-19 have died, bringing the total of coronavirus deaths in Iowa to 90.
WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – Tyson Foods announced Wednesday that the company will indefinitely suspend operations at its Waterloo pork plant this week. The company said its largest pork plant has been running at reduced levels of production due to worker absenteeism and will stop production mid-week until further notice. The facility’s 2,800 team members will be invited to come to the plant later this week for COVID-19 testing.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines-based Meredith Corporation announced that it will cut pay for thousands of its employees due to financial struggles caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. 2,225 employees will receive a 15% pay cut. The company said its highest-paid employees will receive pay cuts between 20-40%, totaling around 775 additional pay cuts. All impacted employees will receive one paid day off per week at the company’s lower pay rate.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Gov. Kim Reynolds launched an initiative Tuesday to test thousands of Iowans for COVID-19. Reynolds’ $25 million TestIowa initiative promises up to 3,000 additional COVID-19 tests per day for Iowans who qualify through the testiowa.com website. Iowans can take a three-step assessment to see if they qualify for a free drive-thru test, with results promised in 48 hours.
COLLINS, IA (IRN) – Three people found dead at a Collins residence on Tuesday died from asphyxiation, likely from carbon monoxide gas, according to WHO-TV. When police arrived after a request for a welfare check, they discovered the bodies of three adults inside a travel trailer. The deceased are a 62-year-old female, 41-year-old female, and a 20-year-old male. Three dogs were also found dead inside the trailer.
