DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Organizers of the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, or RAGBRAI, announced today that it will host a new, two-and-a-half day bike ride set for the fall. RAGBRAI will host “The Great Iowa Fall Ride” October 2-4. The ride will begin in Iowa Falls, but additional information regarding the ride route has not been shared. In May, RAGBRAI confirmed it would not host its 2020 ride due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Public Health confirmed 392 additional COVID-19 cases Friday morning. A total of 25,127 positive cases have been confirmed statewide. There were three additional COVID-19 deaths for a statewide death toll of 660.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An 18-year-old man was shot in the back in Cedar Rapids during a drive-by shooting Thursday evening, according to KGAN-TV. The victim and another person were riding scooters on the sidewalk. The 18-year-old was taken to the hospital and was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Police received multiple reports of gunshots near the Kirkwood campus in Cedar Rapids yesterday. KCRG-TV reports officers found shell casings at the scene and spoke to witnesses, but no arrests have been made.

WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – An Illinois man was arrested Wednesday and is being charged with a hate crime relating to a car vandalism in Waterloo earlier this month. KWWL-TV reports Gary Shelton allegedly marked a car with the letters “KKK.” The victim is a black female and according to Waterloo Police, the markings were made by a substance that was unable to wipe away.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Des Moines City Council will look into a resolution next week to possibly support the idea of decriminalizing marijuana. KCCI-TV reports if the plan moves forward at Monday’s meeting, the council would create a task force. The task force would then help the city create enforcement policy that would make marijuana possession the lowest priority for the Des Moines Police Department. Decriminalizing marijuana in Iowa is on the Des Moines Black Lives Matter group’s list of demands.
