RIVERTON, IA (IRN) – A Hamburg man is in jail, accused of leaving his two friends to die after wrecking his pickup. Fremont County deputies think it happened sometime overnight Thursday. Duane Stuck, 21, showed up at the hospital Friday morning. Rescue crews found his two passengers in a truck submerged in the Nishnabotna near Riverton. Family of those who died want to know why Stuck didn’t call for help, and he is charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle, operating while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
OXFORD, IA (IRN) – One person is dead after a plane crashed near the Green Castle Aero Club near Oxford in Johnson county. On Sunday evening the plane crashed in a cornfield a few hundred yards south of the club. Authorities said the name of the deceased individual is being withheld until family is notified.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa is turning down nearly three-quarters of the COVID-19 vaccine doses available to the state from the federal government because demand for the shots remains weak. A total of 88 of Iowa’s 99 counties have told the state they don’t need all or part of their weekly vaccine allocations for that week.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Des Moines Downtown Farmers’ Market, the Iowa City Farmers’ market as well as farmers markets in Waterloo, Marion, Cedar Rapids and other cities returned Saturday with huge crowds and big smiles under masks. The pandemic forced the traditional markets to close last year.
IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Former University of Iowa All-American Chuck Darling has passed away at the age of 91 in Colorado. Darling was a two-sport star for the Hawkeyes, earning three letters in basketball (1950-52) and two in track (1950-51). Born in Denison, Iowa, Darling is one of three players in program annals to be a consensus first-team All-American, earning the distinction as a senior in 1952.
