DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Just as many outdoor events in Iowa like farmers markets and professional baseball games are getting underway, organizers on Tuesday announced the 80/35 music festival will be postponed to 2022, out of an abundance of caution during the pandemic.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines family said Southwest Airlines refused to let them board their flight home when their son with autism couldn’t wear his face mask. Instead of flying into the Des Moines Airport on Sunday, the Petek family said they had to drive home from St. Louis. Their son is non-verbal, has autism and a sensory processing disorder.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Magazine publisher and multimedia company Meredith Corp. said Monday it will sell its Local Media Group consisting of 17 television stations to Gray Television Inc. for $2.7 billion in cash and will focus on expanding its print and digital magazines business. Meredith will stay headquartered in Des Moines, and says no job losses are foreseen.

IOWA (IRN) – Just in time for summer, restaurants can allow dogs on their patio, thanks to the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals. The decision to allow dogs lies in the hands of restaurant owners.

SAN DIEGO, CA (IRN) – Iowa Native Clayton Schenkelberg, believed to be America’s oldest Pearl Harbor survivor, has died at the age of 103. Schenkelberg died April 14 in San Diego, where he lived. The Carroll native was born in 1917 and lived through several hardships; his mother dying when he was 9, living through the Great Depression, and losing his father in an accident when he was only 17. He and his brother joined the Navy in 1937. On the day of the Pearl Harbor attacks, his shift was just ending when the first Japanese planes attacked.
