DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Three teens are in custody after the Iowa State Patrol says they led officers on a chase in a stolen car from northeast Iowa that ended in a rollover crash at Highway 5 and Fleur Drive south of Des Moines. The car was stolen from the Waverly area. The 15-year-old driver, along with two passengers both aged 16, suffered minor injuries and were taken into custody.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines Area Community College says it is making progress restoring its network and tentatively plans to resume online-only classes on Tuesday. Their system was hacked over a week ago, and the FBI is investigating.
DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – The Dubuque Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter in downtown Dubuque, is now reaching out to help feed families. They’ve opened up the Kindness Cafe, a food truck that will travel around town to bring food to people who need it.
DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – Grace Lynn Keller was crowned Miss Iowa 2021 in Davenport over the weekend. Keller, a University of Iowa graduate, will represent Iowa in the 100th anniversary of the Miss America pageant in December. Her social impact initiative includes a literacy program for students between kindergarten and third grade. For her talent portion she performed a contemporary dance.
EUGENE, OR (IRN) – Laulauga Tausaga is one of the most decorated athletes in Iowa Hawkeye history. The senior hoped to repeat as discus champion during the National Track and Field Championship in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday. She threw a career-best mark of 63.53 meters, but it wasn’t enough. Arizona State thrower Jorinde Van Klinken threw an NCAA record 65.01 meters on her final throw to take home the first place title, with Tausaga finishing second.
Tausaga finished her storied career earning another First Team All American honor.
