BUCHANAN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – State Auditor Rob Sand released a report today detailing a special investigation into the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office. The special investigation, which ran from July 1 to August 13, uncovered more than 100 instances in which an inmate was either released early or late – not matching the time sentenced. There were also more than 100 instances in which jail time served was not recorded, or there was insufficient data to determine if an inmate had served more or less than the time they were sentenced to serve.
ROCKWELL, IA (IRN) – A 7-year-old girl has died from injuries she received in a go-cart crash in northern Iowa. The crash happened Sunday night near Rockwell. The go-cart collided with a boat trailer.
IOWA (IRN) – A spokesperson from the Iowa Department of Human Services said the state is exploring how it can continue to support Afghan Special Immigrant Visa recipients. Since Fiscal Year 2017, 94 Iraqi and Afghan SIV recipients have settled in Iowa.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The first Iowa redistricting maps will be delivered on Sept. 16, beginning the process for redrawing political boundaries for legislative and congressional districts. The nonpartisan Iowa Legislative Services Agency received updated software and U.S. Census Bureau data on Monday and will begin drawing new maps.
MOUNT VERNON, IA (IRN) – Mount Vernon native and former Hawkeye Tristan Wirfs was ranked in the NFL Top 100, which is an annual list of the NFL’s best 100 players, as chosen by fellow NFL players. Wirfs was ranked at #89. The Tampa Bay Buccaneer left tackle helped protect quarterback Tom Brady in the 2020 season and helped his team win a Super Bowl. He was one of five rookies who made the list.
