DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A 19-year-old Des Moines man was stabbed to death early Thursday morning. Police are investigating.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines woman has been accused of shooting at a group of people. Police said 27-year-old Kayla Thompson got into a physical fight with her family last week at a home. Police said she came back with a gun and shot at them several times. One person was grazed with a bullet.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Lawmakers will converge on the State Capitol today to look over the second non-partisan proposal for new local and congressional maps. The Legislative Services Agency’s first attempt at redistricting was voted down by Iowa lawmakers October 5. If lawmakers do not approve the second set of redistricting maps, the LSA will have to try again for a third non-partisan attempt which legislators can modify.
PEOSTA, IA (IRN) – Peosta Mayor Jim Merten has resigned days away from the Nov. 2 election while he is the only name on Peosta’s mayoral ballot. Mayor Merten announced his resignation through a letter to city council members. Marten wrote, “There have been recent and unexpected changes in my life outside of the mayoral role that will impair my ability to serve for the foreseeable future.”
IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Iowa star basketball player Caitlin Clark is now the first collegiate athlete to sign a sponsorship deal with Hy-Vee. Clark and the grocery store chain announced the deal Wednesday. The NCAA changed its policy earlier this year to allow college athletes to make money off their name, image and likeness.
