WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Two West Des Moines residents are in jail after a young boy suffered second-degree burns. West Des Moines police said 26-year-old Teta Barley and 25-year-old Kuley Karlar were supposed to be caring for the 3-year-old child. According to police, the boy had burns on his genital area, buttocks, thighs and feet. He is now recovering in a hospital in stable condition. The suspects are each charged with felony neglect and are being held in the Polk County Jail. Police did not release details about their relationship to the child.

ANKENY, IA (IRN) – An Ankeny man has been charged with robbery after he allegedly tried to rob a Kum & Go. A clerk at the store said he refused to sell alcohol to a man who didn’t have an ID. A few minutes later, the man returned to the store holding an item the clerk knew wasn’t a firearm and demanded money from the cash register. The clerk refused to give up any money and the suspect left. 33-year-old Eric Storm was arrested on Wednesday.
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An arrest warrant has been issued for a Cedar Rapids man after he failed to appear in court last week on a charge accusing him of harassing a Linn County prosecutor. 34-year-old Marcus Alan DeVore allegedly contacted Assistant Linn County Attorney Monica Slaughter with the intent to threaten or intimidate her. Although he was warned not to contact her again, he continued to send her Facebook messages that included “vulgar, threatening, alarming and intimidating language and emojis.”
AMES, IA (IRN) – Emily Ryan and Lexi Donarski scored 15 points apiece, Ashley Joens had a double-double and No. 11 Iowa State used a dominant third quarter to defeat No. 25 Kansas State 70-55 last night. ISU held K-State scoring sensation Ayoka Lee to 12 points, 13 below her average of 25. ISU improves to 19-3, 8-2 in the Big 12. They ended the night tied for first place with Oklahoma.
