DES MOINES, (IRN) – A Des Moines man is facing multiple charges after allegedly injecting methamphetamine into a minor and encouraging her to use sex toys. Police said Mark Worthington, 59, injected a minor on more than one occasion in April. Police said Worthington told the minor that the drug would make her aroused. He also encouraged her to use sex toys he provided. Worthington is charged with third-degree sexual abuse and distribution of a drug to person under 18.
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A Cedar Rapids man has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to a lesser charge for the shooting death of another teen during a botched robbery. 20-year-old Kyler Carson pleaded guilty Tuesday to assault and was sentenced to three years’ probation. He also must pay $150,000 in restitution to the family of 18-year-old Andrew Gaston. Carson was 16 when he fatally shot Gaston and injured Gaston’s cousin when the Gastons ambushed Carson during a drug deal.
URBANDALE, IA (IRN) – The Urbandale Fire Department and Urbandale police are investigating a near-drowning at a hotel in Urbandale. According to the Urbandale Fire Department, they were called to the Ramada on Merle Hay Road for a drowning. When they arrived, the patient, a 2-year-old, was alert and breathing. Witnesses of the near-drowning had rushed in to perform CPR.
IOWA (IRN) – Jumping worms are taking over. They have now been found in 12 Iowa counties. Jumping worms are a type of earthworm. They are called “jumping worms” because of the violent wiggling and snake-like movements they make when uncovered. They reproduce faster and eat more material than garden worms. They are originally from Asia.
