CLIVE, IA (IRN) – A teenager who reportedly approached a group of fourth grade students in Des Moines last week, spoke to them about drugs and threatened them, has been arrested by Clive police. The girl used derogatory language, including racial slurs, to the children and “said she was going to get her boyfriend who was in a gang and had a gun” before she left the park.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A woman has died and a man was hospitalized after a motorcycle crash near Red Oak Saturday. 66-year-old Wendell Keith Gourley of Stanton was driving a three-wheeled Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on Highway 34 with 66-year-old Jeannine Schomburg-Gourley as his passenger. Authorities believe the Gourleys were blown from the highway by a powerful gust of crosswind. The impact of the wind pushed the motorcycle into a cable barrier, after which the two were thrown from the vehicle.

AMES, IA (IRN) – An Iowa kayaker was rescued Friday night after her kayak capsized in the South Skunk River in Ames. The kayaker had capsized in the rapids at the low head dam site and lost her paddle. She made her way to a rock ridge in the center of the waterway. Firefighters entered the water in an inflatable water rescue craft to reach the kayaker.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Law enforcement in northeast Iowa reported another bear sighting on Saturday. The Decorah Police Department confirmed reports of a black bear near the Trout Run Access Area. Police said that they and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources were tracking the bear.
