MASON CITY, IA – A man who vandalized the North Iowa Fairgrounds has received probation. Justin Lee Holt, 45 of Mason City, was sentenced Wednesday to five years of supervised probation and ordered to pay $2,035 in damages. Holt stole a dump truck, damaged an ATM, damaged the Mason City Motor Speedway, broke off doorknobs, broke windows, disconnected phone lines, and stole an automated defibrillator at the Fairgrounds on October 7, 2021.

WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Police have made an arrest in connection to a shots fired incident during a carnival at Valley West Mall in West Des Moines last Wednesday night. Police responded to the area for reports of two large fights. Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy in relation to the shooting.

​​DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – American Airlines has announced that they are pulling service from Dubuque in September. They say it’s due to the national shortage in pilots. American Airlines currently has two flights a day from Chicago to Dubuque’s airport. It’s the only legacy airline currently running out of Dubuque.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa’s showcase of local sports history will soon shut its doors for good and move online only. The Iowa Hall of Pride, which is located within the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, is closing on June 30. The Iowa High School Athletics Association cited low museum attendance during the pandemic as the main reason for the closure.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A 99-year-old man in Mount Vernon is spreading joy online, one joke at a time. It started during the pandemic as people were isolated in their homes. Now, nearing 100, Fred Lehman has made a tradition out of making people smile by telling jokes by video on Facebook. His daughter is his videographer.
