DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa’s prisons are seeing the recidivism rate drop for the second year in a row, with just 37% of convicted prisoners reoffending after their release. That is a 1.7% decrease from last year. That means fewer convicted criminals are returning to prison.

LARRABEE, IA (IRN) – Five workers were injured in the collapse of a building that was under construction in the northwest Iowa community of Larrabee. The workers were building a frame for a machine shop when the structure collapsed. Larrabee is a city of 120 people about 50 miles northeast of Sioux City.

UNION COUNTY, IA (IRN) – The Union County Sheriff’s Department needs help finding a man they said is linked to vehicle thefts in six different counties. They say Daniel Floyd Edwards is responsible for a string of motorcycle, car, pick-up, 4-wheeler, tractor, dump truck, and semi thefts in Union, Ringgold, Adams, Adair, Cass and Madison counties. Authorities say Edwards is known to abuse drugs, has violent tendencies, and will drive at recklessly at high speeds.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Board of Directors on the Iowa Finance Authority awarded nearly $10 million dollars in federal housing tax credits to support the construction of 385 affordable rental homes in Iowa. Eleven communities were awarded the funds.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – An Iowa City West freshman hit a perfect drive on the 233 yard par four 21st hole at the Airport National golf course. Jack Jensen-Fitzpatrick was playing in his first high school golf meet.
