DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A 23-year-old woman has died from a gunshot injury, according to Des Moines police. Two people have been arrested in connection with the homicide.
DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – Davenport police arrested a man after being pursued by multiple police departments. Rock Island police responded to a report of a man armed with a handgun. He fled in a vehicle over the Centennial Bridge into Davenport, and officers saw him throw a gun into the river. 24-year-old Deveil Westerfield was arrested by police. He’s a convicted felon and prohibited from having firearms.
HAMPTON, IA (IRN) – A derailed train spilled asphalt into a creek early Monday morning in the northern Iowa town of Hampton. At about 3:30 a.m., 44 Union Pacific train cars derailed on a bridge over a creek in Hampton. No one was injured and the cause of the train derailment is under investigation.
CHARITON, IA (IRN) – The Humane Society of Lucas County announced it will be closing its doors. The decision was made due to expensive changes that are needed to comply with state regulations, low funding, and not enough volunteer staff.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Ape Initiative on Des Moines’ southeast side was vandalized twice in one week. It’s the world’s only research center dedicated to studying bonobo apes. The bonobos were safe and secure during the incident.
