DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police are investigating a shooting on Monday that has killed two students and injured an employee. The shooting was reported at Starts Right Here, a non-profit organization focused on helping at-risk youth. According to police, three people were shot. Two students were killed. A third person, an employee of Starts Right Here, was transported to the hospital in serious condition. Police have detained three suspects. They say this is a targeted incident.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Parents have packed the Iowa state house to speak about the governor’s plan to use taxpayer money to pay private school tuition. Iowa House and Senate lawmakers are scheduled to vote on Governor Kim Reynolds’ “school choice” bill today. The bill specifically says that the state cannot force private schools to accept all students despite taking taxpayer money.

CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – Stop sticks and a foot chase brought an end to a high-speed chase through Cedar Falls and Waterloo Saturday night. An officer says the suspect passed him at a high rate of speed, beginning the chase. Several other units joined the pursuit. After disabling the car with stop sticks, the suspect tried to run away. 32-year-old Brandon Choate is now in the Black Hawk County Jail, facing multiple charges. Three cruisers were damaged in the chase.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – On Sunday, union members voted overwhelmingly to accept a new contract and end the strike at Ingredion in Cedar Rapids after more than 100 workers spent 175 days on the picket line. Now, nearly six months later, there’s a new contract that, according to the union, protects seniority rights, maintains benefits and work rules, safeguards work hours, and provides wage increases.

SANTA CLARA, CA (IRN) – Former Iowa State football star Brock Purdy is one win from the Super Bowl. Purdy, a San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback, completed 19 of 29 passes for 214 yards as the 49ers beat the Dallas Cowboys 19-12 in Sunday’s NFC divisional playoff game. Purdy and the 49ers will travel to Philadelphia next Sunday for the NFC Championship game. The winner will play the AFC champion in the Super Bowl on Feb. 12 in Glendale, Ariz.
