DES MOINES (IRN) – Governor Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation relating to the weight limits and transportation of grain, fertilizer, and manure as harvest begins across the state. The proclamation is effective immediately and continues through October 11. The proclamation allows vehicles transporting corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage, stover, fertilizer , and manure to be overweight without a permit for the duration, which applies to loads transported on all highways within Iowa, excluding the interstate system.
AMES (IRN) – The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission accepted a motion to deny Summit Carbon Solutions application for a proposed multi-state pipeline. The Des Moines Register reports the Ames-based company Midwest Carbon Express project does not comply with South Dakota law. The denial will force the company to reapply for a permit, as its fate in Iowa and other nearby states is still unclear, although North Dakota has also denied this project. The pipeline is one of three that would collect carbon emissions from Iowa-based ethanol plants and transport it to underground storage sites.
