IOWA – A widespread winter storm is expected to impact most of Iowa through Tuesday evening. The vast majority of the state is under a winter storm warning during that time, according to the National Weather Service. Widespread snowfall between 6-9″ is expected, with higher totals possible mainly in the southeast half of the state. Travel will be hazardous through Wednesday morning in most locations.

WINTERSET – A Winterset man died in a single vehicle crash in Madison County. The Iowa State Patrol reports a cargo truck driven by 41 year old David Lee Blair left a roadway and rolled over Sunday evening. Blair was not wearing a seatbelt and died from his injuries. This is the first fatal crash in Iowa of 2024 after 377 in 2023, which was well above the five year average.

PERRY – The Perry community continues to mourn the loss of a sixth grade student killed in a shooting at the school district’s high school Thursday morning. Eleven-year-old Ahmir Jolliff died from injuries sustained in an attack by 17 year old Dylan Butler. Six others were injured. Funeral services are being held Thursday, with a visitation most of the day Wednesday. Classes remain closed in Perry for most of this week, according to Raccoon Valley Radio.

DES MOINES – Governor Kim Reynolds will give her annual condition of the state address this week as the 2024 Legislative Session begins. The governor will lay our her priorities for year two of the 90th general assembly, with a near supermajority of Republicans likely to back most of those proposals. The speech begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Iowa Statehouse.
