ANAMOSA – The man who shot and killed a grocery store worker in Monticello was sentenced Tuesday. KCRG-TV reports Nathan Russell will spend his life in prison after pleading guilty to first degree murder, against the advice of attorneys. On November 7th, 2023, Russell shot and killed 48-year-old Aaron McAtee outside of the Fareway where he worked. The hearing on Tuesday was a combined plea and sentencing.

WATERLOO – Another round of layoffs is impacting John Deere. Earlier this week, KWWL-TV reported the farm manufacturer was set to potentially lay off several workers from its Dubuque plant; instead, 123 jobs were cut in Urbandale, Waterloo, and Ankeny. There have been more than 500 layoffs reported in 2024 at the Waterloo site alone.

DES MOINES – Several days after a water pipe knocked out communications statewide, some residents and Des Moines business owners remain without service. WHO-13 reports city leaders have received multiple complaints over a lack of communication from internet and phone providers connected to damage done at the Lumen building last week. CenturyLink leadership claims they are still working to finish connecting remaining customers impacted, but did not disclose how many remained without phone or internet.
