SIOUX COUNTY – A case of the bird flu has been found in another diary herd, this time in Sioux County. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and USDA announced Friday that a case of  Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza was detected two days after it was found in O’Brien County, according to KCAU. The state department is starting to use extra measures as it prepares for a possible outbreak and impacts on cattle-related industries.

DES MOINES – A woman shot in a Des Moines park this past Sunday has died. WHO-13 reports that Courtany Mundy-Gonzalez was found suffering from a gunshot wound following a reported shooting in Ashworth Park. Police say she died from her injuries on Friday. No details about potential suspects have been released.

CEDAR RAPIDS – The man found responsible for the stabbing death of a woman outside of a Cedar Rapids apartment building was sentenced Friday. KCRG-TV reports Shane Teslik received 10 years of prison time after he was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in 2023. Police say Teslik stabbed Devonna Walker after a conflict had escalated in Cedar Rapids. Attorneys for Teslik claimed the act was in self defense, but prosecutors believed he provoked Walker by using racial slurs.
