DES MOINES – One of the top potential vice presidential candidate choices for presumptive Democratic Nominee Kamala Harris took aim at the GOP’s pick for VP at a fundraiser in Des Moines on Saturday. KCCI-TV reports Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear targeted J.D. Vance as part of a speech at the annual Liberty and Justice Celebration. Beshear also aimed to get Iowa Democrats excited about the upcoming election, representing his own victories in a deeply Republican state.

BUCHANAN COUNTY – One person has died in a crash in Buchanan County on Saturday. KCRG-TV reports a collision as two vehicles hit at the same time at a rural intersection police say was obscured by high corn. Eighty-year-old Michael John Puff of Oelwein was not wearing a seat belt and died from his injuries.

MINNESOTA – Abortion care providers in Minnesota are preparing for an influx of patients as a strict ban of the medical procedure takes effect in Iowa this week. Minnesota Public Radio reports the director of Planned Parenthood North Central States and other clinics are working to accommodate what they believe will be an increase in visits as a fetal heartbeat law signed by Governor Kim Reynolds goes into place, just over a year after a special session was called to pass it and the Iowa Supreme Court ruled it was allowed to proceed this June.
