CLEAR LAKE – A Forest City man accused of fleeing from police died while doing so in Clear Lake early Sunday morning. The Iowa State Patrol reports 22-year-old Zachary Hill was driving a Ford Focus at a high rate of speed and struck a tree. The car then struck an unoccupied house and two parked cars. Hill died from his injuries.
IOWA – The number of state-operated beaches with swimming not recommended advisories is up to 14. KCCI-TV reports that Backbone, Beeds Lake, Blue Lake, Bobwhite, Denison, Lake Ahquabi, Lake Darling, Lake Manawa, Lake of Three Fires, McIntosh Woods, Nine Eagles, Pleasant Creek, Prairie Rose, and Union Grove beaches are listed as having high E. coli levels. This is an increase of two additional beaches since the previous week’s testing.
DES MOINES REGISTER – An analysis of the budget reconciliation bill passed by Congress and signed by President Donald Trump shows an outsized impact on rural hospitals. The Des Moines Register reports that Iowa could see a nearly $4.5 billion reduction in federal Medicaid spending in rural areas over the next decade, according to a KFF study. The independent research company and the Iowa Hospital Association show that reduction could close multiple rural hospitals in that time frame.
