DES MOINES (IRN) – A Des Moines man was arrested for allegedly touching a child inappropriately and violating the sex offender registry. At around 2 p.m. on Saturday, WHO-13 reports 34-year-old Charles William Mitchell Cheek was seen at a gas station in Ankeny with a child unsupervised. According to a criminal complaint, Cheek was seen by witnesses and on surveillance camera inappropriately touching the child and attempting to kiss her. Cheek was charged with child endangerment, indecent contact with a child, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, and sex offender registration violation.

OTTUMWA (IRN) – Two people died in a chain-reaction crash near Ottumwa Friday. The Iowa State Patrol reported the crash occurred at a single-lane bridge closure on Highway 63. KCCI-TV reports a semi did not stop at the light and caused four vehicles to collide, which also started a fire. Steven and Brenda Hinebaugh of Ottumwa died from injuries.

FORT DODGE (IRN) – An assault investigation is under way in Fort Dodge. Police say they found an unresponsive man after dispatch received a tip, and first responders were able to find the man alive with injuries. Police are seeking additional information about the attack.

IOWA (IRN) – Iowa’s tax free holiday is coming up this Friday and Saturday. Any clothing or footwear costing less than $100 per item is exempt from all sales tax, according to the Iowa Department of Revenue.
