IOWA (IRN) – The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and Department of Public Safety announced the loss of Special Agent Jason Winter Monday. Special Agent Winter, 49, passed away unexpectedly following a medical event on September 1st. Winter was a 27-year veteran of the DCI, was assigned to the Special Enforcement Operations Bureau in Marquette.

DES MOINES (IRN) – The last known Des Moines-based holocaust survivor has died. David Wolnerman was 96 years old. KCCI-TV reports he was living in a small town in Poland in 1940 when it was invaded by Nazi Germany. Wolnerman was taken to nearly a dozen concentration camps for several years and moved to America after being freed in World War II.

SHENANDOAH (IRN) – A local LGBTQ pride group was excluded from a Labor Day parade in Essex. The Des Moines Register reports Shenandoah Pride planned to participate in the celebration in a convertible. Ryan Fuller, who planned to ride in the convertible while wearing drag, was informed last week the parade’s organizer would no longer allow their inclusion. He claims Essex Mayor Calvin Kinney was behind the decision, and the city has not responded to requests for comment.

AMES (IRN) – Several small towns are celebrating the returning CyHawk football rivarly renewed this Saturday during RVTV. WHO-13 takes their sports crew to various small towns each afternoon of the week of the Iowa-Iowa State football game, which will be played at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames this weekend.
