IOWA – Two Democratic candidates running for the U.S. House in Iowa have called for President Joe Biden to leave the race after his performance in the first debate and concerns raised about his ability to stay in office for four more years. Both Christina Bohannon and Sarah Corkery requested that the president drop out of the 2024 race with just under four months remaining until Election Day.
IOWA – Damage estimates indicated flooding and widespread severe weather in the state has cost millions of dollars in damage so far this year. KCRG-TV reports Governor Kim Reynolds said Thursday that 2,000 of approximately 5,000 homes impacted by storms are irreparable, and that infrastructure costs will likely exceed $130 million for repairs and replacement.
NEWTON – A Newton woman is accused of stealing from a county government agency. WHO-13 reports 31-year-old Shelby Hobbs is accused of writing dozens of checks to herself using Jasper County Community Development’s funding, totaling more than $17,000. Hobbs was arrested on Wednesday and faces first degree theft and forgery charges.
INDIANAOPOLIS – Iowa’s standout women’s basketball graduate won two national awards last night for her time as a Hawkeye. Caitlin Clark won two ESPY awards for best collegiate athlete and record breaking performance for becoming the NCAA’s All-Time leading scorer.
