RED OAK – One person was injured in a train derailment Thursday morning. KCCI-TV reports Montgomery County Emergency Management received details of four grain cars leaving the tracks, with one landing on a parked truck. The agency says he was able to get out and suffered minor injuries. Burlington Northern Santa Fe has not released a cause for the derailment.

WAUKEE – First responders recovered a man from a water rescue attempt in Waukee. The Des Moines Register reports agencies responded to a call of a possible drowning Thursday afternoon near Grand Prairie Parkway in Waukee. Two juveniles say they lost a fishing pole and a passerby offered to retrieve it, but upon the attempt, began to struggle. Agencies from Waukee, West Des Moines, Des Moines, and Dallas County responded. The man has not been identified.

IOWA – Well over 5,000 Iowa households have successfully applied for federal aid after a devastating spring and summer of severe weather. Iowa Capital Dispatch reports that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved $61 million of aid this year in the Hawkeye State. Most of that funding has been through the Individual Assistance Program, which assists directly with the aftermath of natural disasters.
