WINNESHIEK COUNTY – A former Iowa resident has been charged in connection with the death of a teenager in 2017. KCCI-TV reports 65-year-old James David Bachmurski, who now lives in Georgia, has been charged with second degree murder in relation to the disappearance of 15-year-old Jade Marie Colvin. Her mother brought the teen to live on Bachmurski’s farm in Winneshiek County in 2017, but she went missing shortly after. Local police say they weren’t informed about the missing girl until five years after her disappearance.
CEDAR RAPIDS – School districts in Iowa are adjusting to a new law as it relates to chronically absent students. KCRG-TV reports Senate File 2435 defines the issue when a child misses 10% or more of the academic year. Schools are required to have an intervention meeting after the first 12 days gone unexcused, and a child is truant after 15 absences
DES MOINES – Another day, another record at the Iowa State Fair. The Des Moines Register reports Sunday was the biggest ever for the Sunday with just over 115,000 people in attendance, making it back-to-back days with record crowds. The current pace would have the 2024 event exceed the biggest ever, with 1.17 million set in 2019.
