RED OAK — A Red Oak man was killed in an ATV crash on Monday evening. KCCI-TV reports that police were called to a trail just west of the levee off Oak Street, and first responders found an ATV in the creek bed with a person trapped underneath. Police say lifesaving measures were performed, but the man, later identified as Jay Woodward, died at the scene.
DES MOINES — A state audit found a University of Iowa employee deposited more than $940,000 from the university into his personal bank account. KCCI-TV reports that the audit showed Brian Busch, who was the manager of the Department of Physics and Astronomy machine shop, allegedly used university property and funding to run a separate business he owned called D3signtech. The audit identified more than $940,000 in money deposited into Busch’s personal bank accounts or to a Stripe account in his name. Busch also improperly spent over $6,000 with a university-issued card and never disclosed any information to the university in a violation of their policies, according to the audit. Busch was placed on administrative leave in September 2021.
DUBUQUE — A Dubuque man was arrested Tuesday after a school resource officer realized he was carrying a gun on school grounds. According to a press release, the officer was called to Audubon School just before 3:30 p.m. to assist with a paternal custody issue. KCRG-TV reports that 39-year-old John McGee arrived at the school several minutes after dismissal and was allowed in by a staff member. The school resource officer noticed a bulge in McGee’s shirt just above his waistline and recognized the shape to be consistent with a handgun. The school resource officer disarmed McGee and took him into custody without incident. According to the press release, the weapon was determined to be an unloaded .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun. McGee was placed under arrest and charged with Carrying Weapons on School Grounds, a Class D felony.
