WEST DES MOINES – A West Des Moines woman was arrested for the death of a young child on Halloween night. WHO-13 reports 21-year-old Kayla Bevar faces charges of child endangerment resulting in death and neglect of a dependent person. On October 31st, several West Des Moines emergency agencies responded to a report of a drowning, finding a 20-month-old child in a bathtub. Bevar told police she put the child in the tub at 6:30 that evening but fell asleep shortly after.
JEWELL – The CEO of a health insurance company killed in Manhattan on Wednesday morning was an Iowa native. KCCI-TV reports Brian Thompson with United Health Care was a 1993 graduate of South Hamilton High School and had a diploma from the University of Iowa. Thompson was shot in what was believed to be a targeted attack while attending a conference.
WATERLOO – A member of the Waterloo City Council is not resigning from her elected position after an alleged theft. KCRG-TV reports Nia Wilder is charged with fourth degree theft for alleged stealing of items from a Walmart. Police say Nia was stopped on her way out of the store by trying to use an app to scan items and then removing them before paying.
