DES MOINES – Three people were killed in a fast-moving fire near Easter Lake on Wednesday. KCCI-TV reports the house was fully engulfed by the time 911 was called. Eight people lived in the home, and the owner a 72-year-old, 18-year-old, and 3-year-old all were unable to escape. Des Moines emergency personnel are investigating the cause.
SIOUX CITY – The family of a Sioux City man is suing the city and its ambulance, police, and fire personnel after the man died in 2023. Iowa Capital Dispatch reports the lawsuit accuses an EMT of injecting 26-year-old James Joseph Foster with a drug that killed him. The family claims emergency responders and paramedics injected the wrong drug to try and restrain Foster. Paramedic Deanna LaMere pled not guilty in the same case in criminal court for involuntary manslaughter charges.
DES MOINES— Governor Kim Reynolds announced President Donald Trump has approved a Presidential Disaster Declaration request for four Western Iowa counties that sustained significant damage to public infrastructure and private property from severe weather that occurred on March 19.
This Presidential Disaster Declaration activates the Federal Emergency Management Agency Public Assistance Program for Crawford, Harrison, Monona, and Woodbury Counties. The Public Assistance Program provides funds that can be used for the restoration of damaged utilities, debris removal, and other emergency protective measures.
