CRESTON – A Creston man was killed following a chase with police on Sunday afternoon in Union County. The Iowa State Patrol reports 55-year-old Tony Dean Fizer is accused of fleeing from an attempted traffic stop on Highway 34. Police claim he was traveling at a high rate of speed on a Harley Davidson motorcycle and lost control near Afton. He was then thrown from the bike into a nearby ditch. Fizer died from his injuries.
SHENANDOAH – A Kansas City man was killed during severe weather in Iowa on Sunday morning. KETV reports 42-year-old Brian Seago was found dead in a tent with a shed collapsed on top of it. At approximately 4 a.m., a severe thunderstorm brought powerful winds near Shenandoah.
DES MOINES – While no daily records have been broken yet for attendance at the Iowa State Fair, the pace puts it close to the record-breaking overall set in 2024. Through the first four days of the 2025 celebration, an average of 107800 daily attendees — close to last year’s average. This comes as heavy rain interrupted some festivities through the first few days of the fair.
IOWA – The Iowa Department of Education received a half-million dollars in federal money from AmeriCorps. KCRG-TV reports the program is part of the Course to College program, aiming to provide education coaching to high school and college students. More than 80 AmeriCorps members will participate statewide.
