PENNSYLVANIA – A Pennsylvania school board is opening a possible lawsuit against another search firm that hired the now-former Des Moines Public Schools superintendent under investigation. KCCI-TV reports Millcreek Township Schools hired Ian Roberts to lead their district from 2020-2023. Roberts is accused of falsely stating in multiple applications that he was a U.S. citizen. He’s in custody in Polk County jail on federal weapons charges.

FAIRFAX – One person has died and two more were injured in a Sunday morning fire in Fairfax. WHO-13 reports emergency responders found a home consumed in flames, and an elderly male was unable to escape the home. Four others were able to get out, including the homeowners. The State Fire Marshall’s Office is assisting with the investigation.

DES MOINES – A unionization vote for nurses working at UnityPoint has been delayed due to the ongoing government shutdown. Iowa Capital Dispatch reports an effort to create the United Nurses of Iowa for 2,000 nurses working in the Des Moines metro has been postponed. The vote needed to go through the National Labor Relations Board, which is closed due to the federal shutdown.
