IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The University of Iowa has announced a contract extension for head football coach Kirk Ferentz. The new extension means Ferentz will be coach through the 2026 season. Ferentz’s total annual compensation under the new agreement will be $4,500,000. Ferentz and the members of his staff will also continue to be eligible for bonuses based on performance.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – An Omaha man was injured after being thrown from a boat Sunday evening on the Missouri River in Harrison County, Iowa. 23-year-old Nathan Case was a passenger sitting in the front of an open bow boat when the vessel hit the wake from another boat causing him to fall out. The boat Case fell out of went over the top of him and he was hit by the propeller. He was not wearing a life-jacket, but other passengers were able to rescue him. He’s in serious condition.

AMES, IA (IRN) – The former Cy-Ride bus driver who ran over and killed an Iowa State student is out of jail, according to KCCI-TV. Benjamin Clague was released after he completed his 30-day sentence and paid a $100 fine. He was driving the bus that hit 18-year-old Emmalee Jacobs last December in Ames. She later died from her injuries.

POLK COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle fatality collision Monday night in rural Polk County involving a car and a motorcycle. A Nissan Juke traveling northbound was struck head­-on by a southbound Harley Davidson motorcycle that took the curve too wide. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two occupants of the Nissan were transported to a local hospital with non­life threatening injuries.

CLIVE, IA (IRN) – Two people are dead and two others were injured after a shooting outside of a packed party in Clive early Sunday morning. WHO-TV reports the incident happened at the 7 Flags Event Center. Upon arrival, officers found 44-year-old Kevin Hall with a gunshot wound to the torso. Hall died at the hospital. 29-year-old Johnny Jackson was dead at the scene. Multiple guns were involved, and 12-15 shots were fired.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A Davenport man faces a first-degree murder charge after authorities say he killed his girlfriend during an argument. The Quad-City Times reports that 55-year-old Thomas Lopez assaulted 37-year-old Melissa Lewis at their home on Aug. 31. Lopez slapped, choked and pushed her, and when he pushed her for the fourth time, she fell back and hit her head on a window sill, killing her.

BOONE, IA (IRN) – A man is in the hospital after being stabbed at the Boone Speedway early Monday, according to KCCI-TV. Police responded at 12:45 a.m. on reports of an assault where the victim had been stabbed. Upon arrival, officers found the victim with several stab wounds to his abdomen. 47-year-old Jeff Davis of La Porte City reportedly got into a fight with the victim and stabbed him.

SPRINGVILLE, IA (IRN) – Thousands of dollars are going to help fight poverty in the eastern Iowa town of Springville. KCRG-TV reports this past weekend, people took a swing against poverty in the fourth annual wiffle ball tournament. Thirteen teams paid a fee to play this year. Event organizers aimed to raise more than $4,000. The money will go to local churches to help families buy food and school supplies.
