JOHNSON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A woman’s body was found in the Iowa River in Johnson County on Thursday, according to KGAN-TV. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says that they were called about a possibly body floating in the river. An hour later, an unidentified woman was pulled from the river. An autopsy will be performed.

LECLAIRE, IA (IRN) – Police have identified a body pulled from the Mississippi River Friday as missing Clinton boater, 22-year-old Keegan Rasmussen, according to WQAD-TV. Last week the body of 22-year-old Tyler Steeg was pulled from the river. Steeg and Rasmussen had been out boating in November of 2016 when they were reported missing.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Former Cedar Rapids substitute teacher Mary Beth Haglin will serve 90 days in jail and a period of supervised release for having sex with a student. KCRG-TV reports she will also have to spend 10 years on the sex offender registry. The relationship was consensual, and the case drew national attention, including her appearance on television with Dr. Phil.

STORM LAKE, IA (IRN) – A student in Storm Lake is facing terrorism charges after police say he made a verbal threat to blow up the school. WHO-TV reports the 11-year-old was arrested Thursday morning at Storm Lake Middle School. Police say the investigation revealed no immediate threat, and that they take all threats seriously. The student is charged with making “threats of terrorism.” School went on as normal.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Gov. Terry Branstad has signed a bill that would greatly reduce negotiating power for public sector unions in the state. The Iowa House voted 53-47 Thursday, with all Democrats opposed, to pass the measure. The GOP-led Senate chamber voted 29-21 Thursday, with all Democrats and an independent opposed. The vote followed lengthy debate in the chamber that started Wednesday morning and continued all night. Thousands rallied in opposition to the legislation.
