DENMARK, IA (IRN) – The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says a man from the southeastern Iowa town of Denmark has been shot, and his son is believed to be the shooter. KCCI-TV reports deputies found a man suffering from two gunshot wounds. Authorities arrested the son in Fort Madison. He was taken to juvenile detention center in Montrose.
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids police are investigating a shooting at the Coin Kleen Laundromat Saturday evening. KCRG-TV reports witnesses say someone fired four shots through one of the laundromat’s windows, hitting a man inside in the torso. He was taken to an area hospital, and police believe his injuries are non-life threatening.
GRAETTINGER, IA (IRN) – An investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board says an ethanol-fueled fire in Iowa at the site of rural train derailment is still burning two days after it erupted. The derailment occurred around 1 a.m. Friday near Graettinger, about 160 miles northwest of Des Moines. It sent 27 tanker cars, each carrying 25,000 gallons of ethanol, off the tracks. Two crew members escaped unharmed, and no other injuries have been reported.
KANSAS CITY, MO (IRN) – The Iowa State Cyclones men’s basketball team won their third Big 12 Tournament Championship trophy in the last four years Saturday evening. The Cyclones cruised past #2 seed West Virginia in the title game 80-74. They opened the tournament with a victory over Oklahoma State Thursday and knocked off TCU in the semifinals Friday. The Cyclones now have an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament next week.
