BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – An unusual deer/car collision happened just south of Burlington this morning, according to KTVO-TV. The driver advised deputies she had struck a deer which caused the vehicle to smoke. She said within moments, the car caught on fire. When firefighters arrived, the engine block of the car was fully engulfed, but the only occupant was safely away from the vehicle.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A motorcyclist was shot twice while riding his bike Wednesday night in Des Moines, but was still able to ride for help. WHO-TV reports the man was shot in the back and shoulder. He stayed on the bike and was able to ride to his brother’s house. He is expected to survive.
MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A man allegedly stabbed five people at a Mason City bar Wednesday night, according to KIMT-TV. Raul Millares Arias, 39, of Mason City, is facing five counts of willful injury causing serious injury. The suspect had been asked to leave the bar by staff due to his behavior before returning to stab five people. All are expected to recover.
IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Iowa City Police have arrested a woman after she allegedly stabbed her sister in the head, causing a laceration. KGAN-TV reports 28-year-old Kitty Hood got into an argument with her sister after she brought alcohol into a home. She’s in jail.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – More than 1,500 properties were reportedly affected by the weekend weather that dumped up to 9 inches of rain on central Iowa — a number authorities expect to increase. The Des Moines Register reports through Wednesday night, 15 properties in Des Moines have been categorized as majorly damaged and 350 received minor damage. In the Fourmile Creek area alone, more than 230 single-family homes, 10 commercial buildings and six apartment buildings were damaged by flooding.
