DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines man was sentenced Friday to life in prison after murdering his estranged wife, according to KCCI-TV. A jury had convicted 51-year-old Harold Dudley of first-degree murder in the shooting death of 36-year-old Mary Dudley. He admitted to shooting her, but said that the killing arose from a sudden quarrel and that he should be convicted of second-degree murder. Prosecutors, however, showed videos that showed him peering around a corner at his wife’s apartment while holding a handgun before he kicked in her door and fired six times.
BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – A man armed with a box cutter stole a woman’s car in a Hy-Vee parking lot in Burlington, according to WQAD-TV. On Friday, the victim at the store was approached by 22-year-old Dalton McKeown, who said he wanted to take her car. She said no, and that’s when he took out the box cutter to threaten her. He was soon apprehended.
JACKSON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A hunter and his dog were saved after his kayak capsized in an Iowa lake. Rescue crews were called to Browns Lake in eastern Iowa for the hunter holding onto his kayak on October 20, according to the Iowa DNR. Thanks to a waterproof cell phone case, he was able to call 911.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Nearly 2,000 of the best gymnasts in the United States will coming to Des Moines next summer. On Friday, ‘Catch Des Moines’ announced the 2019 USA Gymnastics Championships is coming to the Iowa Events Center. The five day event will take place from July 2nd-6th, 2019.
